Zoya Larney began her undergraduate studies at James Madison University, where she laid the foundation for her career in social work. Later Zoya transferred to Mary Baldwin University, where she completed her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree in December 2023. Following this, Zoya pursued graduate education at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), earning her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in August 2025 through the accelerated advanced standing program.

Professional Background and Expertise

Zoya’s academic training has been strengthened by diverse professional experiences in both higher education and mental health. At James Madison University (2019–2021), Zoya worked in Orientation and Admissions, where she supported incoming students in navigating their transition to college. While completing her studies at Mary Baldwin University (2022–2023), Zoya gained additional experience through employment and an internship at the University of Virginia, serving in Athletics Student Support. In this role, she coached student-athletes to balance rigorous academic and athletic commitments while promoting overall success. Most recently, Zoya completed my graduate field placement at Bloom Health Centers (2024–2025), providing outpatient clinical services under supervision with a focus on trauma-informed, evidence-based care.

Zoya’s focus is on working with first responders, individuals who have experienced trauma, and those navigating life transitions. Her clinical approach is trauma-informed and holistic, integrating mind–body practices with evidence-based therapies to foster resilience, balance, and overall well-being. Zoya ensures to provide outpatient therapy for adolescents through older adults, tailoring care to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.

Outside of her work as a therapist, Zoya is passionate about health, wellness, and community service. Prior to pursuing social work, Zoya gained valuable experience in emergency medicine, which deepened her understanding of crisis care and strengthened her commitment to supporting first responders and individuals in high-stress situations. In her personal life, Zoya enjoys running, strength training, and spending time outdoors through hiking and exploring new places. Zoya’s deep dedication to holistic well-being extends into her daily life, and these experiences allow her to connect with clients in authentic and meaningful ways.
