Bloom Health Centers is very excited to continue to expand mental health services in Charlottesville, VA with Mary Atcheson, who prefers to be identified by her nickname Olivia. Olivia earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia in 2019, where she developed a strong foundation in critical thinking and a growing interest in mental health and social justice. After graduating, she worked for three years as a First Grade Teacher in Brooklyn, New York. As a teacher, she strengthened her ability to communicate effectively, advocate for students, and foster their social and emotional development. This experience sparked her passion for working more closely with individuals on their mental health and well-being, which led Olivia to pursue a career in clinical social work.

Professional Background and Expertise

In May 2025, Olivia earned her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. During her graduate studies, Olivia completed clinical internships in both inpatient and intensive outpatient settings in Richmond, Virginia. She had the opportunity to work with adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and mood disorders. These clinical experiences, along with her training in trauma-informed care, strengthened her commitment to supporting individuals through evidence-based and compassionate therapeutic approaches.

Olivia specializes in working with adolescents and adults to support their mental health and well-being through a strengths-based and collaborative approach. Olivia has experience supporting individuals navigating depression, anxiety, major life transitions, family dynamics, relationship issues, and trauma. Olivia shares her main focus is building a strong therapeutic rapport with clients by using empathetic communication to address their complex social and emotional needs. She incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness techniques, and trauma-informed care to help clients develop effective coping skills, increase self-awareness, and promote personal growth. Olivia is dedicated to offering individualized, quality care to each client, recognizing that everyone has a unique background and journey. Additionally, she strives to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable and empowered. Olivia’s goal is to help clients recognize their own resilience and strengths while fostering autonomy and meaningful change.

Outside of her professional work, Olivia enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their dog, Ghost. They enjoy going on walks together, trying out pet-friendly restaurants, and exploring Charlottesville.
