Melanie Taweel, MSW
Melanie Taweel graduated from Virginia Tech in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, along with minors in Adaptive Brain and Behavior, Integrative Health and Wellness, and Leadership in Social Change. Then, Melanie pursued her Master of Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 2025 with a focus on childhood trauma and play therapy. Melanie’s academic journey and hands-on experience working with children and families in residential settings with a particular emphasis on crisis intervention have helped her with the skills to foster healing and resilience in young clients, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques designed to nurture emotional growth and well-being.
Melanie specializes in supporting children and adolescents through trauma-focused interventions, with a strong emphasis on childhood trauma. Melanie is currently receiving supervision in play therapy, allowing her to deepen her expertise in this evidence based therapeutic approach. Melanies primary practice is grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness skills, and creative play, which she integrates to help young clients build emotional regulation, resilience, and coping strategies. She believes that working with children means working with the family too. Healing happens within the context of strong, supportive relationships. Melanie’s approach is holistic and safe, aiming to create a nurturing environment that considers the child’s entire ecosystem, including their emotional, social, and familial connections. Melanies goal is to foster growth and well-being in a way that feels inclusive, empowering, and deeply compassionate. Additionally, coming from a diverse background herself, she is passionate about working with diverse populations and ensuring that the approach is culturally sensitive and inclusive.
Outside of her professional life, Melanie loves to sing, play piano, hike, spend time with her cat, and read. On weekends, you can often find her baking a fresh batch of sourdough bread or spending time outdoors, listening to her favorite music.
