Chanel Zelaya is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who primarily serves patients through the lifespan.

Chanel specializes in behavioral issues, coping skills, suicidal ideation, psychosis, domestic abuse/violence, developmental disorders, along with many other diagnoses. Through her experience and education, Chanel has learned several treatments to best serve her patients such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy  (CBT); Culturally Sensitive; Motivational Interviewing; Person-Centered Therapy; Psychopharmacological Treatment; Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; Solution-Focused Brief (SFBT); Multicultural; Interpersonal; Humanistic; Acceptance and Commitment (ACT); Coaching; Compassion-Focused.

Professional Background and Expertise

Beginning her healthcare journey in 2000, Chanel has over 2 decades of experience across many disciplines and over 10 years of experience in psychiatry specifically. Chanel currently serves as a professor at George Washington University and George Mason University, which has helped her to cultivate the intellectual growth of students and the delivery of high-quality patient care. Chanel actively participates in collaboration with the Virginia Health Department to address critical issues and implement protocols to end human trafficking. Additionally, Chanel is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Chanel is dually certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. She is focused on delivering evidence-based care to her patients. Chanel is devoted to continuous learning and teachings within the mental health field, through her experience and academia she demonstrates her dedication to staying at the forefront of advancements in the field. 

In her free time, Chanel enjoys traveling abroad and scuba diving. She also enjoys the beaches all across the globe.
