How NeuroStar TMS Therapy in Richmond Works

NeuroStar Logo

Finding the right mental health treatment for you may feel challenging. Traditional psychiatric medication may cause you to experience unwanted side effects or may not provide relief. Although psychotherapy is a useful tool, combining it with other treatment options could maximize the benefits. If you experience major depressive disorder (MDD) or OCD, where your symptoms don't respond to traditional therapeutic methods, NeuroStar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy could provide relief.

Understanding how NeuroStar TMS therapy works can help patients in Richmond decide whether this treatment is right for them. It targets areas of the brain associated with mood regulation, using magnetic pulses to stimulate activity and support improved neural function over time. Our skilled clinicians at Bloom Health Centers provide you with high-quality mental health care to help you lead your best life.

What Symptoms Does NeuroStar Treat?

If you're looking for relief in Richmond, learn how the NeuroStar TMS approach works to address OCD, anxious depression, or major depressive disorder.

It may take four to six weeks before you see the results of NeuroStar TMS therapy, as your body requires time to rebuild and rejuvenate the neural networks. However, once it has taken effect, these advantages could last up to a year. If you find that the effects begin to fade, you could visit Bloom Health Centers for another full regimen of NeuroStar TMS therapy to continue enjoying the benefits.

The NeuroStar TMS Treatment Process

When you decide to undergo NeuroStar TMS therapy, you will likely want to know how it all works. Your first appointment with Bloom Health Centers includes the mapping process. This lasts around 30 minutes and allows our clinicians to adjust and calibrate the NeuroStar TMS device to meet your specific needs. This includes positioning the device to target a specific region of your brain and adjusting the magnetic field intensity to work best for you.

You will receive regular treatment five days a week for about six to eight weeks. During each 19-minute therapy session, you will sit in a comfortable seated position, where we will place the device against your head, and activate the magnetic field. This delivers pulses that you may experience as a tapping sensation on your scalp. It's a non-invasive process that allows you to return to your normal activities after treatment with no downtime. Being FDA-cleared, you can trust that NeuroStar TMS therapy is a safe, effective treatment option to help you manage your mental health symptoms.
