What NeuroStar TMS Does and How It Helps

NeuroStar TMS uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate specific regions of the brain that regulate mood. Because the stimulation is localized, it does not circulate through the body like a pill, and no sedation or recovery time is required. Treatments build over time, encouraging healthier activity patterns that can improve mood, motivation, and concentration. The device is FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder, and our Richmond office provides additional FDA-cleared protocols. We customize the treatment plan to your needs using FDA and manufacturer-backed protocols to ensure safety and accuracy.

For depression, a standard TMS therapy series takes place across seven weeks. During each session, a clinician positions the treatment coil, confirms your settings, and stays with you for the duration of the session. Many people describe a tapping sensation on the scalp, and most patients return to work, school, or daily activities right after your appointment.

Who Is a Good Candidate for NeuroStar TMS Therapy?

You may be a candidate for NeuroStar therapy if you are 15 or older and have not achieved adequate relief from antidepressants, have experienced side effects that make continued medication difficult, or prefer a non-systemic approach. If you are 22 or older with OCD or anxious depression, you may be a candidate for NeuroStar TMS. We will review your history, current medications, and goals to ensure treatment is safe and clinically appropriate. As one of the area’s largest in-network practices, our team verifies benefits, assists with authorizations, and reviews expected costs up front so you know what to expect.
