Conditions Treated by Rockville NeuroStar TMS Therapy
Our FDA-Cleared TMS Treatments
NeuroStar TMS therapy can treat three mental health conditions for our Rockville patients. Major studies have proven the treatment is safe and effective, and insurance companies recognize it.
- Major depressive disorder: We target the left front part of your brain to boost mood, energy, and focus
- Major depression with comorbid anxiety: We can also treat those who have symptoms of anxiety alongside their depression.
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder: We aim pulses at a spot that helps quiet unwanted thoughts and repetitive actions
During your TMS treatment course, we track your progress with simple scores using tools such as the Patient Health Questionnaire for depression or the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale for OCD so you can see real and measurable change each week.
One Tool to Target Multiple Issues
Instead of juggling several medications and coping with extra side effects, you may be able to treat more than one problem in the same seven-week TMS series. For example, we might stimulate two spots in one visit—one for low mood and another for your anxious thoughts. Handling multiple symptoms simultaneously saves you time, reduces stress, and simplifies your care plan. Plus, because TMS therapy is non-systemic, it will not upset your stomach, cause weight gain, or leave you feeling groggy all day.
How We Decide if NeuroStar TMS Can Address Your Condition
First, we meet to discuss your symptoms, past treatments, and any health concerns. After that, we check your insurance coverage so you know the costs from the beginning. If your mental health concern is a good match for NeuroStar TMS, we map your scalp at our Rockville office for the exact place where the coil should sit—this takes about 30 minutes. Then we lock in a schedule: 36 short sessions over roughly seven weeks. You will see us for about 19 minutes each time, then return to your day. We will review your progress weekly and adjust it as necessary to build on your progress.
