TMS for Specific Types of Depression in Arlington

NeuroStar Logo

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is not one-size-fits-all care. With NeuroStar TMS for specific types of depression in Arlington, we tailor the treatment to the specific type of depression you’re facing. Whether your symptoms shift with the seasons, began after childbirth, or simply haven’t improved with medication, we adjust your plan so it aligns with your daily reality. Because we treat individuals in our community, we are aware of local stressors including long commutes, government-related workloads, and academic pressures that can affect your mental health.

By blending evidence-based technology with an understanding of what daily life looks like in Arlington, we create a treatment plan that resonates with your lived experience. Each plan begins with a thorough diagnostic review to understand the type of depression you’re experiencing and any additional concerns you may have. From there, we will provide you with a personalized treatment schedule designed to stimulate the specific brain circuits connected to your symptoms.

Understanding Depression Subtypes

Major depressive disorder (MDD) presents differently across age, biology, and environment. For example, seasonal affective disorder may cloud a person's motivation during shorter winter days, while postpartum depression can follow the joyful, yet often overwhelming, experience of welcoming a newborn. Some people develop persistent double depression, layering persistent depressive disorder (PDD) on top of recurrent episodes, while others experience severe, medication-resistant symptoms.

By understanding the nuances of each depression subtype, our Arlington clinicians determine whether left-dorsolateral prefrontal stimulation alone is sufficient or whether complementary coil placements could improve your NeuroStar TMS results. Identifying symptom patterns early allows us to fine-tune the treatment settings more accurately, reducing the trial-and-error period. The result is a care path that is evidence-based and easier to incorporate into your routine.

How TMS Therapy Targets Your Brain to Treat Depression

The NeuroStar TMS coil sends rapid magnetic pulses that trigger electrical signals in specific areas of the brain. For many types of depression, hypoactivity in the left prefrontal network reduces motivation and increases negative rumination. Stimulating this region helps restore healthier activity, supporting the release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and glutamate. Over several weeks, many people experience better mood, improved focus, and increased motivation. We monitor motor threshold from day one, adjusting pulse trains as you progress. Ongoing feedback from our quantitative rating scales and from your own observations will guide every tweak. This keeps you involved in your care and helps ensure your treatment remains effective.

Clinical Evidence and Real-World Results

Dozens of peer-reviewed studies show that NeuroStar TMS therapy is effective in treating different forms of depression and their associated symptoms. Patients with seasonal patterns often maintain relief even during darker months, and postpartum participants report bonding more fully with their infants. People with treatment-resistant depression see meaningful improvement without the added systemic side effects of traditional medications.

We regularly analyze remission and response statistics to ensure our protocols reflect the best available outcomes. This evidence fuels our commitment to ongoing quality and improvement. It also ensures that, no matter the particular type of depression you wish to treat, your NeuroStar TMS sessions follow proven, safe, and effective treatment guidelines.
