What Can NeuroStar TMS Treat?
NeuroStar TMS therapy is FDA-cleared for several mental health conditions, making it a trusted option when you are exploring evidence-based alternatives to medication or psychotherapy. NeuroStar can treat major depressive disorder (MDD), especially when you haven't experienced satisfactory improvement with antidepressant medications. This depression is difficult to treat and involves persistent feelings of sadness, loss of interest, or other symptoms that affect daily functioning.
Anxious depression is a form of MDD that includes significant anxiety symptoms. NeuroStar TMS therapy has been cleared to treat this combined illness, offering relief when your depression is complicated by anxiety. In adults, NeuroStar TMS is also cleared for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a condition marked by unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviors that can interfere with daily life. NeuroStar TMS is an adjunct treatment option for OCD, meaning it can be used alongside other evidence-based care such as psychotherapy and medication.
Who Can Benefit From NeuroStar TMS Therapy?
NeuroStar TMS treatment could be an appropriate choice if you are aged 22 or over in Winchester, VA, have a mental health condition that has not responded well to other therapies, and want a new approach that does not require medication. It may also be a potential option for adolescents aged 15 to 21 with treatment-resistant depression when used as an adjunct to other therapies.
How Does NeuroStar Treatment Feel?
During a NeuroStar TMS session, our clinicians position a metal coil near your scalp that delivers magnetic pulses to activate underperforming regions in your brain. Patients are awake and alert throughout the process, which usually lasts about 20 minutes, depending on your condition's symptoms and your response to the treatment.
You may experience tapping or warmth directly under the coil, but these side effects are usually mild and lessen over time. Our care team at Bloom Health Centers will guide you through each step of your treatment protocol, ensuring your comfort and confidence.
