Health Strategies Post-TMS Therapy in Arlington
At Bloom Health Centers, we designed your course of NeuroStar transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy to stimulate mood-related brain circuits with non-invasive magnetic pulses. The health strategies you employ after TMS therapy in Arlington can help that progress take hold.
Our experienced mental health care team shares simple and medically based practices you can use alongside your NeuroStar treatment so improvements feel organized and sustainable over time.
Weeks One to Six: Routines That Support Change
Early TMS therapy sessions are a time to practice calm health techniques. You should aim for consistent sleep, brief walks on most days, and regular mealtimes to support your energy regulation. Choose one daily anchor task, such as a relaxing shower or a short stretch, to reintroduce momentum without overreaching. Track three signals (for instance, sleep quality, energy, and ability to concentrate) so we may easily review patterns at check-ins.
A simple 0-to-10 rating system for your mood, sleep, and focus may keep your NeuroStar treatment decisions data-informed rather than based on guesswork. Take note of what you practiced each day: like social contact, activity planning, or thought reframing. Remember how it felt before and after. Clinical follow-up has shown that benefits may persist up to one year after NeuroStar TMS therapy for many people who respond.
Make Your Reviews Count
Bring your log to your health follow-ups so our Arlington clinicians can connect your after-TMS treatment patterns (sleep, activity, and social contact) with any symptom shifts. If a pattern is helping, keep it small and consistent; if not, switch it for an equally small experiment. In a large outcomes study of NeuroStar TMS, 83 percent of patients experienced improvement (Sackeim HA, et al. (2020). J Affective Disorders, 277(12):65-74.), reinforcing the value of continuing supportive routines after treatment. This is another reason to continue and let your steady routines amplify your treatment gains.
Lifestyle Pillars That Complement Your Care
Habits that reinforce brain health may make your NeuroStar gains easier to maintain after treatment. Try brisk movement on most days, keep a consistent sleep schedule, and prioritize balanced meals to support a steady energy supply. Limit your late-evening screen time and alcohol, which could unsettle your sleep and mood. Short, structured practices, such as paced breathing or a two-minute gratitude list, could help you shift your attention when you start to worry or feel depressive episodes coming on. If medication choices are part of your plan, take them as prescribed and record any changes you notice.
If your benefits fade over time, we encourage you to speak with our clinician about the steps to take regarding your health habits post-TMS. For some patients, we may consider a NeuroStar TMS retreatment course.
