How Much TMS Therapy Costs
Financial considerations may influence your decision to pursue mental health treatment, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy is no exception. NeuroStar TMS is an FDA-cleared and non-invasive approach to treating major depressive disorder, anxious depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Many people choose TMS when medications have not provided enough relief, or when they want an option without systemic side effects.
At Bloom Health Centers, we believe patients deserve clear and honest information about cost, insurance options, and the value of treatment. While each person’s expenses may differ, having a baseline understanding of the cost of NeuroStar TMS therapy in Virginia can help you make informed decisions.
Factors That Influence TMS Therapy Costs
Several variables may affect the total cost of your NeuroStar TMS treatment. At Bloom Health Centers, we work to make care accessible without compromising clinical quality. In Virginia, the average cost for one session is between $200 and $400. TMS is typically administered five days a week for 6 or 7 weeks, adding up to around 36 sessions. This brings the total costs of a comprehensive course of TMS therapy to between $6,000 and $14,000, but with insurance it means most patients only pay $0 to $25 out-of-pocket per session.
Insurance Coverage
Since Bloom Health Centers is in-network with many major insurance providers, your treatment may be partially or fully covered depending on your plan. Each insurance provider has their own eligibility and coverage requirements. NeuroStar TMS is covered for qualifying patients by insurance providers such as Anthem, Beacon, BlueCross/Blueshield, Cigna, Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, United Healthcare, and most others.
Since coverage and reimbursement depend on your individual insurance policy, the most accurate way to determine your benefits is to review your policy or call your insurer. Our team can also verify your TMS benefits and help you understand what your costs may look like before treatment begins.
The Value of TMS Therapy―Is it Worth the Cost?
Many of our patients in Virginia who are living with depression or OCD believe that TMS was worth the cost since it provided meaningful and long-lasting relief when therapy or medication alone was not enough. In fact, studies suggest that successful TMS treatments may reduce the need for certain medications over time, which could lower long-term medication costs.
Additionally, by improving your daily functioning, NeuroStar TMS could have a positive impact on your productivity, relationships, and overall quality of life. Choosing an effective treatment for your mental health can offer lasting benefits in work, home life, and emotional well-being.
