About

Alexandra's greatest interest is in helping pregnant and postpartum women through their motherhood journey. Her doctorate research and specialty training in perinatal mental health allows her to evaluate and treat women during this unique time, when they may not feel like themselves. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are common during pregnancy and postpartum but are often under diagnosed and under treated, leaving many women feeling poorly. Alexandra can complement the care team during or after pregnancy to improve mothers' overall wellbeing.

Additionally, Alexandra has several years of work experience in the military setting, caring for service members before and after deployments, evaluating for mental health concerns and PTSD, and promoting duty readiness. As a military spouse she understands the stress of military life and feel it affords her a unique perspective in caring for others.

Of all her professional endeavors, her doctoral pursuit is her proudest. Alexandra began the program with the intention of learning focused material and becoming a subject matter expert, but what she also gained were teaching skills, methods of self-evaluation and reflection, and a greater capacity for empathy. With courses in teaching and learning styles as well as several community outreach projects, she came out of the program with increased compassion and a fine-tuned listening ear. Her research in general and postpartum depression was very fulfilling, especially after experiencing mood challenges in her own perinatal periods, and she graduated feeling like the program gave her the knowledge and tools needed to help the new mothers in her community.

Education & Experience

Alexandra graduated Magna Cum Laude from Clemson University with a BS in Health Science and a minor in Spanish. She went on to the Medical University of South Carolina for PA school and completed a MS in Physician Assistant Studies.

Alexandra worked for several years in varying specialties including general surgery, urgent care, and military medicine, becoming interested in pursuing a doctorate. She completed her Doctorate in Health Science from Pennsylvania Western University in 2020, focusing her research on postpartum depression.
