What Is Psychiatry?

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who support patients with medication management and oversee treatment plans. To become a psychiatrist, a person must graduate from medical school, successfully complete an exam for state licensure to practice medicine, and study an additional four years in a psychiatry residency program.

What To Expect From Psychiatry at Bloom

During your appointment, your Bloom psychiatrist will evaluate medical and psychological data to make a diagnosis and to work to develop a customized treatment plan. Should a patient require medication, we work collaboratively to find the most effective option. We take several things into consideration when making this decision, such as medical history, allergies/intolerances, and lifestyle. Medication can be an important piece of comprehensive care. At Bloom, we monitor our patients’ medications through regularly scheduled check-ins and encourage open and honest communication with our patients.

Our commitment to your well-being extends to tailoring medication plans to your specific circumstances. We take into account your medical history, allergies, and lifestyle factors to ensure that the prescribed medication minimizes potential side effects and maximizes therapeutic benefits.

regular medication check-ins

Monitoring the effectiveness of your medication is crucial. We schedule regular check-ins to assess how well the prescribed medication is working for your mental health. These check-ins allow us to make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

Open and honest communication is essential in the medication management process. We encourage you to share your thoughts, concerns, and experiences with us. Your feedback plays a vital role in ensuring that the prescribed medication aligns with your comfort, well-being, and treatment goals.

FAQs

Do you offer in-person appointments?

Yes. While most appointments are still delivered via telehealth, we believe in meeting patients where they are, and providing the flexibility to meet in-person as requested and appropriate. Please contact the Patient Care Center at our main number (1-667-668-2566) to discuss appointment options.

Do you have providers who speak other languages?

Yes! We have providers who speak multiple languages, including languages such as Spanish, Farsi, Urdu, Hindi, and Tagalog. Please contact the Patient Care Center at our main number (1-667-668-2566) if you’d like to inquire about a specific language.

Can you refill my medication before my next visit?

A prescriber at Bloom Health Centers will typically provide prescriptions to last until the next scheduled appointment. We urge you to schedule your follow-up appointment before you conclude your visit so that you do not run out of your medications. In situations where you must cancel your scheduled appointment for a valid reason, the prescriber may provide a bridge refill as a one-time courtesy. It may seem inconvenient, but best practice is to manage medications in person. We want to ensure that you are doing well, and you are getting the correct medications at the correct dose for your health condition. For routine and non-emergent schedule changes, please call the Patient Care Center at the main number (1-667-668-2566). For urgent requests, you are encouraged to contact your provider directly; however, for emergencies, please go to the nearest emergency room.
