Kaiyi Zhang LGPC

Kaiyi is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Maryland. She began her academic journey at Beijing Forestry University, studying from September 2014 to August 2018, and earned her Bachelor of Management in Economy Management for Agriculture & Forestry in 2018. After completing her undergraduate degree, she moved to Arizona in the summer of 2019 to attend Chandler-Gilbert Community College, where she deepened her interest in mental health. Kaiyi received her Associate of Arts in Psychology in the summer of 2021.

Later that fall, she began her graduate studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. By May 2024, Kaiyi fulfilled the academic and pre-graduate internship requirements to earn her Master of Arts in education and Human Development in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Kaiyi has worked with clients, especially adolescents and young adults from diverse backgrounds, supporting them through a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, communication, anger management, grief, trauma, cultural identity, interpersonal relationships, executive functioning, and life transitions etc. Kaiyi’s approach is grounded in authenticity, compassion, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity, emphasizing meeting clients where they are in their journey. Her experiences in a multicultural environment shaped her understanding of diverse perspectives. Kaiyi shares how exploring her passions and values led her to challenge societal and cultural stereotypes, fueling the desire to help others navigate their struggles with self-awareness and acceptance. As an Asian woman with both East Asian and Western cultural backgrounds, she deeply understands the complexities of balancing multiple cultural and psychosocial expectations and the courage it takes to seek support. Drawing on this awareness, Kaiyi has a focus on building a compassionate, collaborative rapport with her clients so that together, they can navigate vulnerabilities and discover pathways to healing, growth, and renewed resilience.  Kaiyi uses integrated therapeutic interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, and family systems therapy, to tailor her approach to her client's unique needs. Kaiyi’s approach is also informed by mindfulness-based, strength-based interventions and integrated play and art therapies as needed. She can offer individual and family sessions in English and Mandarin for clients in Maryland.

Kaiyi shares how she has always been driven by curiosity and enjoys exploring new activities, from recently painting, archery, and rock climbing. Also, Kaiyi has a love for cooking, listening to music, and occasionally binge-watching her favorite shows and dramas on weekends. Kaiyi remains open to learning from different people and experiences, a mindset that keeps her inspired and balanced.
