What Is NeuroStar TMS Therapy?
NeuroStar TMS therapy is a noninvasive procedure that does not involve the use of medications to treat depression. Instead, it utilizes a sequence of strategic magnetic pulses to stimulate your brain cells. During a TMS session, a coil is positioned near your head and sends magnetic pulses specifically to the regions of your brain that control your mood. The magnetic pulses increase the activity of your brain cells, making it easier for you to break away from depressive thoughts.
How Can TMS Therapy Treat Depression?
Depression is often linked to reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex, the region responsible for mood regulation, decision-making, and emotional response. By stimulating this area with controlled magnetic pulses, it can help restore normal activity levels and improve communication between brain cells. After a few weeks of therapy, many of our patients report feeling gradual relief from symptoms, including persistent sadness, lack of energy, and difficulty concentrating. That is because, over a series of sessions, your brain’s natural ability to regulate emotions can improve, providing you with a foundation for long-term recovery.
NeuroStar TMS therapy is FDA-cleared, and many scientific studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in providing relief from depressive symptoms in treatment-resistant patients. It can also be applied to treat other related concerns, including anxious depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Remission rates vary, but many of our patients remain symptom-free for a year.
