Susan Kraus's areas of expertise in psychopharmacology and brief therapy include treatment for adults, the geriatric population, persons with intellectual disabilities, persons with developmental delays, and persons with physical disabilities.

Susan is an astute observer of nursing and an activist for the profession. In 2014, she was appointed by the Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley to improve access to sexual medical assault forensic examinations in the state. Currently she works with criminal investigators on female assault cold cases.

Education & Experience

Susan Kraus is a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Bloom Health Centers. Her extensive education started with a BS in Education from Asbury University in 1978. She received a BSN in Nursing from Salisbury University in 1982. She then attended George Mason University and earned an MSN in Adult Nurse Practitioner in 1989. Susan completed a Post Masters Certificate in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Maryland in 1999, then continued her education at UMBC earning a Management of Aging Services (MAgS) in 2008. She is dually board certified as an Adult Medicine Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

From 2011-2015, Susan Kraus actively represented advanced practice nurses on the Maryland Board of Nursing as a board member. Her leadership and advocacy with underserved and vulnerable populations makes her a sought after university clinical educator for student nurse practitioners in psychiatry. Her professional expertise makes her a sought after legal consultant, peer supervisor, nurse colleague.
