About
Dr. Salem likes to involve the patient in their care as much as possible through shared decision making after providing education about possible treatment options and allowing for time to ask questions and clarify information. She has a non- judgmental approach and likes to see patients who are accessing mental health care for the first time or those who have been apprehensive about attending an appointment.
Dr. Salem is currently studying Lifestyle Medicine and often suggests healthy lifestyle options in addition to medication management. She discusses healthy coping mechanisms and mindfulness techniques with the goal of improving symptom management. In some situations, lifestyle modification may possibly give the option of reducing or maintaining lower medication doses.
Dr. Salem, with a background in Family Medicine, identified a significant gap in the provision of mental health support for patients. Observing that their concerns often went unaddressed, leaving them feeling unheard and invalidated, Dr. Salem took it upon themselves to extend their care beyond the ordinary. They frequently extended their conversations with patients struggling with mental health issues, actively seeking appropriate referrals for necessary treatment. The aspiration of becoming a nurse practitioner was driven by Dr. Salem's determination to aid patients in accessing vital care and ensuring their experiences were marked by a sense of recognition, attentiveness, and support. Drawing from personal encounters of having concerns dismissed and leaving medical visits feeling worse, Dr. Salem's empathy is further informed by understanding the challenges of inadequate health insurance and the inability to afford treatment. Striving diligently, they endeavor to unearth cost-effective and attainable solutions, tailoring their approach to each patient's circumstances, ensuring comfort, confidence, and a reduction in apprehension.
